Bretby Anniversary LP vol. 1
Ltd edition LP celebrating the 1st anniversary of the Bretby Soul Club; a release from the 80s I believe with then current dancers. One side of disco-soul tracks and one of northern soul Jermaine Jackson - Feel the fire (Motown) Nice lp by the underrated brother of Michael Jackson. Best track is the two-step "You need to be loved" Bobby Thurston - You got what it takes (Jupiter) Disco-heavy alum by Bobby. Highlight (and the reason for playing it) is the version of "Sitting in the park" Orquesta Suprema - The Salsa Family (Sound Triangle) Florida salsa from 1980; very soulful and good songs

Paul Ortiz Y La Orquesta Son - Los Que Son (Ghetto)
Lovely Latin Soul album with the sweet ballad "Tender Love" as its focal point Marvin Gaye - A Guy Named Marvin Gaye (Motown) Recorded before his "What's Going On" this is more traditional Motown fare with strong song choices Dionne Warwick - Freewheelin' Dionne Warwick (Scepter) Classic songs like "I say a little prayer" and "This girl's in love with you" Francy Boland - Fellini 712 (MPB) Big band jazz but so smooth and elegant On Saturday March 11 our friend Colin Brown will be DJ-ing at the Nothern Soul Amsterdam gig at the Batavia.
Two days earlier, on Thursday March 9, he will be special guest on our radio show. |
