Most Soul Nights held in bars and clubs focus on the dance floor and play uptempo music. However, there is another tradition of club events where the music is slow, sweet, moody and deep. The Amsterdam soul DJ collective Mokum Soul present a new monthly night @ the Mata Hideaway in the Hard Rock Hotel on the Leidseplein in Amsterdam focusing on the heart rather than the dancefloor. Mokum Soul are Taco Fett of Amsterdams premier record shop Waxwell, Hans Diepstraten & Harry van Vliet from longstanding radio show Fingerpoppin’ Soul, and Mark Fisher expat resident of Amsterdam and upfront soul collector. Together the four of them will present an evening of Sweet Soul, Ballads and B-sides in an intimate and stylish environment. In line with similar nights from Los Angeles to London you will hear sweet soul, group harmony and deep ballads selected by the Mokum Soul crew and top international guest DJs. Join us for Mokum Soul @ the Hideaway for a soul night with a difference, every 3rd Friday of the month from 8-12 PM, starting on Friday September 16. Fully stocked bar and free entrance! Our good friend DJ Moonshine will be guesting on Fingerpoppin Soul #1440 June 10 2021. He is famous for his DJ sets using only 78s but this time he will be bringing a selection of 45s for our enjoyment.
Thankfully, mercifully, we are finally back live in the studio starting May 27! Long may it continue, because live radio is what we want!
Fingerpoppin Soul wants to give a Shout Out to all the Health Care workers who give their Heart and Soul to all their patients. The Pandemic will be on the wane soon and we are looking forward to lots of beautiful Live music experiences!
One of the best new albums of 2019 for us was "The Tales people tell" by Kelly Finnigan. Kelly is the son of well known Hammond B3 organist Mike Finnigan who for instance played keyboards on "Electric Ladyland" by Jimi Hendrix but also can be heard on albums by Etta James and Peter Frampton . Kelly has been active in West Coast groups like The Monophonics, Destruments and Night People and has now gone solo but is joined on stage by his new band which hopefully includes his wonderful backing singers and horn section !
